The
Importance of a Federal-Style Resume ...
We can't stress enough how vitally important an outstanding application is to your federal career prospects. In government hiring, the job application plays a much different role than it does in the private sector. In non-government hiring, an application is just a snapshot of you, outlining your education and job history; its purpose is to capture the attention of a potential employer, who will then call you for an initial interview.
In federal hiring circles, employers don't use interviews to screen applicants; in most instances, only a few candidates, the final competitors, are called in for face-to-face meetings. Instead, the relative qualification of job candidates are evaluated by comparing their applications. This means that, if your application
doesn't sell you, you'll rarely get the chance to sell yourself in an interview. Therefore, your job application must do more than grab
someone's attention, it must represent you through a good part of the selection process. Clearly,
it's essential that your application reflects your best effort.
Your application is the only thing you have to represent you in the initial competition for a federal job. If it
doesn't make the grade, you won't get an opportunity to sell yourself in an interview. Our experience has shown that the basic ingredients for successful application preparation are:
-
Analyzing your own
experience and qualifications and then relating them directly to the
requirement for your occupational field.
-
Careful, painstaking
attention in completing your application, especially experience
descriptions.
-
A concise, well-organized
approach, resulting in carefully targeted, accurate and complete
information that is relevant to the jobs sought.
-
Application of the concept that you are marketing your skills, experience and
potential.
While the government's stated goal is to make the federal application process friendlier and easier for applicants, the fact is:
you're the one who is the petitioner, the one who is asking for something from the other party. In other words, the government agency has something you
want...a job...so you must be the one to make the greater effort.
How well you portray yourself and your previous work experience is a critically important factor in a successful job search.
That is why our Federal Resume Writers stand ready to help you make that
"highly qualified" list and subsequently, get called in for the
job interview.
How to Get Started:
1. We'll need to assess
your resume, along with one or two current job announcements. Please
contact us at 1-800-822-5627 (703-914-5627 DC Metro area) to start the
process. A $50.00 retainer is required at the time of
assessment.
What Next:
2. One of our Federal
Resume Writers will do an assessment of your resume, then schedule a
telephone interview with you to gather additional information needed to
include in your resume. The balance due is required at the time of
the telephone interview.
After the
Interview:
3. Within seven days,
the Writer will prepare the first draft of your resume. When
complete, this draft will be emailed to you for review.
4. Once you've reviewed
the resume and made any comments/edits (via phone or through email) the
Writer will incorporate these changes into the final draft and within five
days, return the final draft to you via email.
Finishing
Touches:
5. Once you've reviewed
the final draft, the Writer will put the finishing touches on the resume
and email you a presentation version and an on-line version of your
resume. The presentation versions will contain formatting, special
fonts and bullets, and will be used when mailing and/or faxing your
application. The on-line version, which contains no formatting,
special fonts or bullets, is to be used to apply for jobs on-line.
Rush
Services:
-
If you need your resume
within 7 days, you will be assessed a $150 surcharge.
-
If you need your resume
within 10 days, you will be assessed a $75 surcharge.

The
Importance of KSAs ...
KSAs ... Knowledges,
Skills and Abilities ... that list of special qualifications and
personal attributes that someone has decided you should have in
order to fill a particular job. It's not enough that you meet the
basic qualifications for the position and have the specialized experience
that's required. It's not enough that you have a polished and
up-to-date application package that clearly lays out all your experience
and expertise. Now you have to put more time and effort into
developing a "supplemental statement";
a set of responses
to these additional evaluation factors that may be relevant only to this
job vacancy. And you have to do it in time to meet an incredibly
short application deadline. Grumble, grumble.
Our Federal Resume Writers
are here to help you get through this application step and move you
towards that new federal job.
How to Get Started:
1. We'll need to assess
any KSAs you've already started to write, along with the job announcement
that contains the required KSAs. Please contact us at 1-800-822-5627
(703-914-5627 DC Metro area) to start the process. A $50.00 retainer
is required at the time of assessment.
What Next:
2. One of our Federal
Resume Writers will schedule a telephone interview with you to gather
additional information to include in your KSAs. The balance due for your
KSAs is required at the time of the telephone interview.
After the
Interview:
3. Within seven days,
the Writer will prepare the first draft of your KSAs. When complete,
this draft will be emailed to you for review.
4. Once you've reviewed
the KSAs and made any comments/edits (via phone or through email) the
Writer will incorporate these changes into the final KSA draft and within
five days, return the draft to you via email.
Finishing
Touches:
5. Once you've reviewed
the final KSA draft, the Writer will put the finishing touches on the KSAs
and email you the final copy.
Rush
Services:
-
If you need your KSAs within 7 days, you will be assessed a
$50 surcharge per KSA.
-
If you need your KSAs within 10 days, you will be assessed a
$25 surcharge per KSA.

Do you feel overwhelmed
by the Federal job hunting process? Have you submitted
multiple resumes, only to get a notice stating that you were "not referred to the selecting official" or
"you did
not meet the basic qualifications for this job"? Like a
lot of federal job-hunters, do you think the system is 'fixed' and
that no matter how qualified you are, you won't get hired because
you don't have the inside track on these jobs?
If you answered yes to
these questions, we understand your frustration. However,
based on our years of experience counseling job-hunters, the main
reason applicants are not getting the job is because they don't have
a comprehensive application package, they don't meet the area of
consideration for jobs that are restricted to: current or former
federal employees; veterans; students; ICTAP/CTAP; etc., or they
didn't follow the application instructions carefully and omitted
pertinent application information.
While the government's stated goal is to make the federal application process friendlier and easier for applicants, the fact is:
you're the one who is the petitioner, the one who is asking for something from the other party. In other words, the government agency has something you want...a job...so you must be the one to make the greater effort.
How well you understand
the system, and portray yourself and your previous work experience is a critically important factor in a successful job search.
There are so many components to the federal job search process, that
even the most educated individual can get lost in the maze. That is why our Federal
Counselors stand ready to help you make that "highly qualified" list and subsequently, get called in for the job
interview.
The Results: You
will gain in-depth knowledge of the federal hiring process, trim
months off your federal job search, and gain employment faster...and
often at a higher rate of pay than you expected.
Regardless of
occupation, pay level, or federal experience, our clients have one
thing in common...they needed help navigating the complex federal
employment system. They needed someone to help them develop a
strategic plan that would enable them to focus on applying for jobs
that would result in a rating of 'highly qualified', and that's
exactly what we do. We point our clients in the right
direction...we draw a map that will help you reach your destination
in the quickest way possible...and we help you avoid unnecessary
roadblocks along the way.
Don't miss another job
opportunity or spend hours applying for a job where you won't
receive a 'highly qualified' rating.

You are doing a great job and a service to us Federal
employee's. The new Fed agencies like TSA & DHS are going to be using your services a lot. I have been spreading the word about your organization as I have been moving around the country working for TSA. Keep up the good work.
S. R. N, HR Specialist, TSA-Manchester
NH
Yes! I did get the position I wanted at a GS-7 rate. They wanted me to work full-time, but what I really wanted to do was work part-time and go to school using my GI Bill. Well, the resume you wrote was so strong that they changed the whole position to part-time so they could hire me! Thanks a lot for all your help!
